Pediatric Neuroradiology and MRI scanning

How does pediatric MRI scan of the nervous system differ from adult MRI scans?
Children pose a challeng for medical imaging since they find it difficult to lie still for the standard 45 minute MRI exam. Through the coordinated efforts of a pediatric anesthesiologist and Neuroradiologist, it is now possible to obtain high quality scans on children through the use of anesthesiologist delivered sedation. This sedation affords optimal scan resolution while insuring comfort and relieving anxiety for children undergoing MRI scan.

How is the procedure performed?
The anesthesiologost uses specialized equipment engineered specifically for the MRI scanner environment. The radiologist who will interpret the scan has undergone specialized training in Neuro-pediatric MRI scan.

Pediatric Neuroradiology and MRI scanning is available at the following location:
California Advanced Imaging at CPMC (San Francisco)
